So about those bugs….
Another term often used for “bugs” are vulnerabilities. And what exactly are software vulnerabilties?
Simply put, software vulnerabilities are weaknesses or flaws in your present code.
Software vulnerabilities must be recognized, eradicated and prevented, because left alone these bugs can impact the performance and security of your software.
One of the ways that a virus can gain access to a pc is via a vulnerability.
➔So what causes software vulnerabilties?
Vulnerabilities or bugs are often caused by a glitch, flaw, or weakness present in the software.
Now we are NOT software developers so we don’t know why glitches or flaws are present. What we DO know is how to prevent them!
And that means secure coding standards to enforce security standards. This is where our patch management takes centre stage.
➔Patch management is the process of distributing and applying updates to software.
These patches are often necessary to correct errors (those bugs or vulnerabilties) in the software. When a vulnerability is found after the release of a piece of software, a patch can be used to fix it.

➔Now what is “System Perfomance Monitoring?”
So it’s sort of like when you approach a yield sign and you have to allow the traffic coming from the right to pass before you can get a gap to enter. And if the traffic keeps on coming, you have to keep waiting. Now in technical terms, whenever a system resource, such as a processor core, disk or network interface is occupied by a request, it is unavailable for processing other requests. Pending requests must therefore wait for the resource to become available before they can be run.
Now think of a 5 lane highway full of traffic which has to merge into 2 lanes during peak hour – the bottleneck causes traffic to slow down to a snail’s pace. And in technical terms, where a resource is too busy to keep up with all of it’s requests it can become a bottleneck to the system with the higher the percentage time each resource is occupied resulting in an increased delay on subsequent requests. Such a resource would be thought of as critical to the performance of the system.
Performance Monitoring may be used as a form of preventive maintenance to identify any bottlenecks or critical resources on the monitored servers – so the system can be fine tuned or upgraded – before they cause increased delays and other problems.
